The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. Deuteronomy 28:12-13
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. What are you thankful for? It is good to thank God for President Abraham Lincoln who proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens,” to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November.
Unfortunately, what President Lincoln suggested lost its meaning. Thanksgiving Day had become the day of covetousness. The gods of America turned it to a day of idolatry. So, instead of giving thanks and praise to our heavenly Father as it was intended, Americans are worshiping idols.
Therefore, children of God, to be thankful doesn’t have to wait until the last Thursday in November. It should be an everyday affair. We have so many things to be thankful for every second. I would encourage each and every one of you to start with five minutes, even ten every day to give thanks to your Heavenly Father for His goodness and favors.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” If you don’t know God’s will for your life, here is the answer; give thanks.
Be someone who goes in the Bible reminding yourself what God has done for you. When your cousins and friends are planning malls’ sleepovers, stay home planting the living Word in your heart because in due time you will reap the harvest if you do not give up.
Let’s look at the scripture above as an example. There are FIVE BIG promises found in TWO Deuteronomy verses only God can deliver.
He will open His good treasure for you
He will bless the work of your hand
You shall lend
He will make you the head
You shall be above only (everything is beneath you or under your feet)
You will never know that you are “the bank” if all you meditate on is Apple watch. The world cannot fulfill any of the above promises, your job will not deliver them, your inheritance will never satisfy. Only the living God, the Lord Almighty is able to accomplish above and beyond. But you gotta want them. It’s up to you.
Now, even though every promise is available for us freely, they are conditional. Anything that is given completely free is never appreciated. In many cases, it is trampled underfoot. God has given all things freely through Christ Jesus however, they are available IF……….
That “IF” means, you must meet God somewhere. You must do something too. It’s a two-way street.
I pray you’ll fulfill your IF on this Thanksgiving week that will carry you for the rest of your life (which is 100 years according to Isaiah 65:20). Amen!
